Canopée

canopée

Atelier George x Marie Drouet

When Anne Jacquemin Sablon asked us to design a piece that would merge our glass forms with another language, we quickly sketched the idea of adorning those soft marbled effects, so characteristic of our work—with lines, braids, or woven patterns.
The first intention took shape as a suspended planet, with wicker rays tracing an orbital path. As bonds formed between these two species, mineral and vegetal, through the dexterous hands of Marie Drouet, another story began to emerge. The strands gradually shaped a branching canopy, weaving a terrestrial existence into this moiré celestial body.
In this work, the braided twigs respond to the ochre glass highlights, as if fragments of bark had settled within the glass, like tiny meteorite particles.
Canopée takes its name from its unfolding form, reminiscent of the tree canopy exposed directly to sunlight.
